about

'Obstructions' is the soundscape to one of the spaces in the SYMBIOSIS exhibition. It represents the creative, physical, emotional and psychological barriers that can prevent or delay us from achieving our ideal goals.

lyrics

"Da da da da da da. No, camera..."
"Two green capsules, one yellow pill, one white, a second white pill and then a third. Is that all of them today? Hm, vitamins. Can't be forgetting those vitamins. One orange, one yellow. Done."
"Okay, we're live."
"Yeah, I think about him every day. Sometimes it gives me strength, sometimes it fills me with rage."
"It feels like remote control painting. Can you see it, sort of transmitting through?"
"Maybe it's chemical, maybe it's nature, maybe it's situational; whatever the reason, I think you just have to try and find your way through it and not spend too much time blaming other people, you know?"
"Aw, the camera wasn't set up right this whole time!"
"Stop it! The door is locked. The door is locked, the door is locked. The door is locked - did you lock the door? Ah. No, you did, don't be daft, you locked the door. You locked the front door, the house is safe. Did you though? Did you lock the door? Ah. Did I leave something plugged in? No, no, stop it. Stop it, you're fine. You're fine, you're going to work. Gah. I'm not sure that I actually locked the door. But you can't, you can't turn back round 'cause if you walk home then, then you're going to be late for work and then you're going, you're going to start panicking about losing your job. The door isn't locked and I'm going to be thinking about that all day. No, you locked it, you know you locked it. You know you locked it, you're being daft. You're being daft, you know you locked it. That's fine. Yeah. The door is locked. You're going to work. Everything's going to be fine. Everything is going to be fine."
"I think it's been both a blessing and a curse. It's helped make sense of pretty much my whole life, to date; validated some of my personality traits, behaviours and so on, but at the same time I think it's shaken my confidence and kind of made me question how others look at me."
"Food break, a break for food!"
"Hiya, good morning. Um, I'm just calling to see if I can get a doctor appointment today. Um, how about tomorrow? Right. It's just that I need to talk to someone about my prescription. Yeah it can send an email but I really... okay. No no no, I know, um, yeah, thank you for your help anyway. Have a good day."
"It's so meditative."
"Funny what happens when you rotate it and then you think, "wow"."
"No, see the thing is that people don't understand about depression is that it doesn't really look like anything. Um, yeah, I'm just sat at home, trying to get out of bed and it's not always the easiest thing. I know, it's not like I'm, it's just, y'know...it's not like it's just one day. Every day is that, ah...no, I'm not lazy, it's not about motivation or.... Yeah, no. See this is why I can't talk to you about this. Alright. Okay. Changing the subject then. Um... Yeah, did you see the thing on the news last night? About the turtle? Ah, I frickin' love turtles man. It made me really sad, yeah. No no, yeah, I'm fine, I'm fine...yeah. You know me..."
"I was keeping up for a while."
"Fucked that up."
"So yeah, I managed to get through to the psychology team, but they said that there's no, um, appointments for about six months now, so... Yeah, think we're going to have to increase the tablets. I just... I just need some help."
"I'm not sure it was so much a deliberate act or a clear decision, as it was a vague desire to escape..."
"I'm gonna do this thing where I'm just not gonna ever have enough paint on my palette though."
